SHITENNO-JI Temple
Shitenno-ji Temple was founded by Prince Shotoku in 593.
Shitenno-ji Temple was built as the first official temple in Japan about 1400 years ago.
The temple is the head temple of the Japanese sect that is not particular about Buddhist denominations.
Many buildings were burned down due to repeated wars and disasters, but the buildings have been accurately reproduced in the Asuka era style at the time of its founded.
Establishment of Shitenno-ji temple
During the battle between the Soga clan who worshipped the Buddha and the Mononobe clan who was against the Buddha.
Prince Shotoku (14 years old at that time) was in Soga side, to win the battle, he created the statue of Shitenno, and he vowed to build the temple that worships Shitenno when we win the battle. The soga clan finally won out and Prince Shotoku built Shitenno-ji Temple in 593.
Five-storied pagoda
It is a five-storied pagoda that is a symbol of the temple. It enshrines a wooden statue of Shitenno, the four big gods. You can see the inside and climb to the top floor.
Kon-Dou, the main hall
It enshrines Kuse Kannon as Honjibutsu, the original Buddhist identity of Prince Shotoku.
The ceremony is strictly practiced from 11:00 every day.
Rokuji-raisan Dou
The hall is located in the center of the precincts and enshrines Yakushi Nyorai and Shitenno.
The worship ceremony is held six times day and night.
Daikokudo
It is said that there will be benefits for prosperity of descendants, good fortune, and thriving business.
Kitagane-Dou & Taiko-Rou
The precincts are large and there are many other high points. It is a good place for a walk.
There are some places that require an admission fee, but walking alone does not cost money.
