Yasaka Pagoda (Hokan-ji Temple)
When you enter Yasaka-dori street from Higashioji-dori street, you will see a tower that rises at the end of the slope. It is a five-storied pagoda that is the symbol of Higashiyama built in the center of Hokan-ji Temple and is called “Yasaka no Tou. You can also access Yasaka no Tou by walking behind the South Tower Gate of Yasaka Shrine. The tower was burnt down several times, and the current tower was rebuilt by Yoshinori Ashikaga, the 6th Shogun of the Muromachi Shogunate in 1440. Rickshaws pass nearby and you can see the nostalgic scenery of Kyoto.

If you go up Yasaka-dori from Higashioji Road, you will find a colorful and cute pudding shop. You can enjoy a pop and cute creamy taste pudding.
Kiyomizu-zaka Slope
Kiyomizu-zaka Slope is a long slope that runs from the road near the bus stop “Kiyomizu-michi” on Higashioji-dori street to Kiyomizu-dera Temple. It is a recommended walking path because it has less traffic. The road flourished as the sando, the road used for visiting a shrine. As you get closer to the temple, you can see the lively street.
Ninen-zaka Slope・Sannei-zaka Slope
It is a recommended walking course to go to Kiyomizu-dera Tenple through Ninen-zaka Slope and Sannei-zaka Slope. You can enjoy shopping at many souvenir shops and sweets shops on the stone-paved road with building full of Kyoto atmosphere.
It is a popular shop “Umezono” where you can enjoy Japanese sweets. The small dumplings that are easy to eat with a sweet sauce are very delicious.
This is the Japanese restaurant “KAMANZA”.
Yuba sashimi is cold and very delicious. The crispy tempura and the smooth Udon go very well.
Nene-no-michi Street
Nene-no-michi runs from the west side of Kodaiji Temple to the vicinity of Maruyama Park. Nene was Hideyoshi Toyotomi’s lawful wife, Kitano Mandokoro (Kodai-in), and lived there in her later years. It’s good to ride a rickshaw and look around the scenery.
