What’s in DOTONBORI?
Dotonbori is a famous tourist destination that everyone will definitely visit when they come to Osaka.
While the area around Osaka Station is called “Kita”, Dotonbori is called “Minami” because of the entertainment district on the south side.
Speaking of Dotombori, the electric signboard of Glico in Ebisu-bashi Bridge is very famous.
Since it was installed in 1935, it has become a famous signboard with an impact, and now the 6th generation is entertaining tourists and is a popular shooting spot.
In the Edo period, about 400 years ago, Dotonbori became a representative downtown area of Osaka with many theaters and teahouses.
At the end of the Meiji era, the number of theaters began to decrease, but it is still the number one entertainment district in Osaka, which is crowded with many people all day long as a city of entertainment and eating.
There are many Osaka’s soul food stores, and they will entertain you with the appearance of a giant object sign. You’ll feel Osaka’s energy there. Dotonbori town flourished as a town with thriving theaters from the Edo period. At present, there aren’t many theaters left, but the town became a busy street all the time as a “KUIDAORE town”, people spend too much money on food.
It is a crab restaurant, Kani Doraku, famous for its moving crab sign.
This is a museum where you can learn about the food culture of Osaka. You can also eat delicious Osaka’s specialty food, Takoyaki.
Dotonbori’s mascot doll, CUIDAORE TARO
A Dotonbori signboard doll that welcomes you in front of the Nakaza Cui-daore Building. The building has souvenir shops that are full of sweets and miscellaneous goods, and restaurants.
Lunch : Dotonbori IMAI
This is a long-established udon restaurant in Dotonbori that is sure to appear in the guidebook.
In the Kansai region have a great emphasis on the soup broth. Soup broth that comes from kombu seaweed or fish flakes is very important. I ordered Kitsune Udon(deep-fried bean curd) and warabi-mochi. The broth with plenty of umami is very delicious. Warabi-mochi has a melting texture.
Snack time
I ate Takoyaki (octopus dumplings), a specialty food of Osaka.
