Nakanoshima in Osaka
Nakanoshima is a business and commercial district place which is located between Dojima-gawa River and Tosabori-gawa River, with modern buildings standing alongside the river.
It is a fashionable date spot that can be reached within a 15-minute walk from Osaka Station.
There are symbolic retro buildings, and there is also a park filled with greenery which is an oasis of urban areas.
During the Edo period, daimyo’s Kura Yashiki (warehouse) lined up along the river, and the distribution of goods to various places using water transportation became active, and the economy developed.
In the Meiji era, the Kura Yashiki was abolished and currently, that vestige does not remain. A stone monument stands quietly there.
Osaka City Central Public Hall
Osaka City Central Public Hall is a retro brick building with a fashionable arch shape, which is a symbol of Nakanoshima. It is a national important cultural property.
It was built in 1918 with a donation of 1 million yen at that time by Einosuke Iwamoto, a wealthy merchant in Osaka.
Currently, you can freely visit only the “exhibition room in the basement” and “free tour area”. There is a guided tour where you can see other rooms that are not open to the public.
There is a lovely restaurant with terrace seats beside the building.
Nakanoshima-Park
Opened in 1891 as the first municipal park in Osaka City. Today, it is famous as a rose garden and is popular as a place of relaxation for people living in the city.
You can see the very nice view during flowers in full bloom.
Restaurant: GARB weeks
Today’s lunch, I chose an Italian restaurant, located next to Naniwa-station.
I relaxed on a shaded terrace seat, and selected a Pizza with lots of ingredients on it.
Enjoy eating while watching the river.
Walk on the promenade
Since the Meiji era, Nakanoshima has been transformed into a fashionable city with the construction of hotels, prefectural libraries and public halls.
There is Osaka Prefectural Nakanoshima Library, which was built in 1904 with a donation from the Sumitomo Family. The building is a specimen of Renaissance architecture.
In addition, there are twin towers of Festival Hall, which is a landmark of Nakanoshima, and many high-rise buildings around there.
You can enjoy the fashionable waterside cityscape while taking a walk along Tosabori-gawa River.
