Honenin Temple
Honen-in Temple is located an east path of Philosopher’s Path. It is the temple related to Honen Shonin who trained with his disciples.
It is said that you will be purified yourself if you pass through the sand piles that represent the water called “Byakusadan” on the approach road. As you pass through the gate and proceed along the approach, you will be surrounded by a mysterious atmosphere. The temple precincts also contain the famous “Zenki-sui” spring. The main hall is enshrined the principal image, a seated statue of Amida Nyorai. A beautiful statue of Jizo Bosatsu is enshrined on the stone steps in front of the main hall. The temple is a quiet and relaxing place.
The main hall is open only specific days in April and November. Other than that, it is not open to the public, but you can feel the atmosphere of the deep Honen-in Temple surrounded by quiet air just by taking a walk in the precincts. It is also known for the camellia flowers.
